Add a Chart in Sheets enabled DW

Overview

It is easy to add charts in DW enabled with Google Sheets.


Step-by-Step Guide


  1. Follow the steps to Integrate with Google Sheets.


  1. Click Discovery Wizard on the Visualizer Type page.


  2. Follow the steps to Add Sections and Categories in Discovery Wizard.


  1. Click to select the section or category where you want to add a chart.


  2. Click Add Chart. The Graph Editor pop-up box appears.



  1. You can see there are 6 graph types.



Pie


  1. Click to select Pie as Graph Type.


  2. Enter a name for the extension in the Extension Name field. This name would not be visible on the Prototype page.


  3. Click to select the appropriate Value Type radio button i.e. whether the values should appear as currency, percent, or amount.


  4. Click to activate the Slice on Zero toggle button if you do not want the chart to show zero values.



  1. Click to activate the Donut toggle button to show values in a Donut chart.


  2. Click Next.



  1. On the Variables section, create variables by choosing any of the following methods.

Creating Variables via Select Data Range Tab


  • Click Select Data Range. The imported Google spreadsheet appears.


  • Hover the mouse over a cell. You can see a finger icon.


  • Click on the mouse's left button and drag it to where you want the data to be copied. You can see the entire data range getting selected. (You can also press the Downward +Shift key on the keyboard to make the selection.)


  • Click Create.


  • You can see all the selected variables in the Graph Editor pop-up box.


  • The variable name automatically appears in the second text box. If you want to change the variable name, click inside the text box to enter a new name for the variable.


  • Click the Close icon to remove the added variable.


  • Click the color box to change the color.

  • Click Select Data Range to replace the selected variables with other variables.


  • If you would like the Pie chart to be a Donut chart, you can easily do that by clicking General and then enabling the Donut toggle button.




  • Click the Reorder icon to change the order of the variables.


  • Use your mouse to drag and drop the variables in the order of your choice.

Creating Variable via Add Existing Variable tab


This method is used to make random selections. There are two ways by which you can add variables.


First Method


  • Click Add Existing Variable.

  • Click the down arrow in the first text box. Click Create New Variable from the drop-down list.



  • The imported Google spreadsheet appears. Click to select a variable and its value.




  • The selected variable appears in the Graph Editor pop-up box.


  • Click the pencil icon to edit the variable.


  • Click the Copy icon to copy the code reference.


  • The variable name automatically appears in the second text box. If you want to change the variable name, click inside the text box to enter a new name for the variable.


  • Click Add Existing Variable to add a new variable.

Second Method


  • Click the down arrow in the first text box and then select a variable from the drop-down list.



  • The selected variable appears in the Graph Editor pop-up box.


  • Click the pencil icon to edit the variable.


  • Click the Copy icon to copy the code reference.


  • The variable name automatically appears in the second text box. If you want to change the variable name, click inside the text box to enter a new name for the variable.


  • Click Add Existing Variable to add a new variable.


  • You can add any number of variables to the chart.



  • Click the color box to change the color.


  • Click the Reorder icon to change the order of the variables.


  1. Click Next.



  1. On the Labels section, click to select the Title checkbox.


  2. Enter a name in the Title textbox to add a title to the chart.


  3. You can also change the font weight, font size, and font color.




  1. Click to select the Sub-Title checkbox to add a sub-title to the chart.


  2. Enter a text in the textbox. You can also change the font weight as well as font size.



  1. For Data Labels, Legends, and Tooltips you can change font weight, font size, and font color.


  2. Click Save,



  1. The Pie Chart appears on the Prototype page.

Note:


  1. When selecting a data range or a single variable, ensure to select not just the value/s but also the variable/s. Otherwise, only the value would appear and you need to provide the variable name. which might become difficult. The variable name that automatically gets added, can be changed later on.
