STEP 15: Add a Chart in Discovery Wizard


Overview


Column Group Chart

You can create different types of charts such as Pie charts, Bar charts, Column (Single) charts, Column Grouped charts, Stack charts, and Waterfall charts. Let's look at each one of them.


Step-by-Step Guide


  1. Follow the steps to Upload your Model/ Create a Visualizer Type.

  1. Click Discovery Wizard on the Visualizer Type page.



  1. Click the Save button regularly to avoid rework or Enable the Auto Save Feature in Discovery Wizard.





  1. Click Add Chart. The Graph Editor pop-up box appears.



  1. You can see there are 6 graph types.




Pie


  1. Click to select Pie as Graph Type.


  2. Enter a name for the extension in the Extension Name field. This name would not be visible on the Prototype page.


  3. Click to select the appropriate Value Type radio button i.e. whether the values should appear as currency, percent, or amount.


  4. Click to activate the Slice on Zero toggle button if you do not want the chart to show zero values.




  1. Click to activate the Donut toggle button if you want to show values in a Donut chart.





  1. Click Variables from the side navigation and then click Add New Variable.





  1. Click the down arrow in the first text box and then select a variable from the drop-down list.



  1. The variable name automatically appears in the second text box. If you want to change the variable name, click inside the text box to enter a new name for the variable.



  1. Click the Close icon to remove the variable.


  2. Click Add New Variable to add more variables.



  1. Click the color box to change the color.


  2. If you would like the Pie chart to be a Donut chart, you can easily do that by clicking General and then enabling the Donut toggle button.



  1. Click Labels from the side navigation.




  1. Click to select the Title checkbox to add a title to the chart.


  2. Enter a name in the Title textbox to add a title to the chart.


  3. You can also change the font weight, font size, and font color.



  1. Click to select the Sub-Title checkbox to add a sub-title to the chart.


  2. Enter a text in the textbox. You can also change the font weight as well as font size.




  1. For Data Labels, Legends, and Tooltips you can change font weight, font size, and font color.


  2. Click Create.




  1. The Pie Chart appears on the Prototype page.


Column (Single)


  1. Click to select Column Single as Graph Type.


  2. Enter a name for the extension in the Extension Name field. This name would not be visible on the Prototype page.


  3. Click to select the Value Type i.e. whether the values should appear as currency, percent, or amount.


  4. Click Slice on Zero if you do not want the chart to show zero values.




  1. Click Variables from the side navigation and then follow the steps as mentioned in the Pie chart.



  1. To add a Title and Sub Title to the chart, follow the steps as shown in the Pie Chart.


  2. To change the font color, font weight, and font size of the Data Labels and Tooltip, follow the steps as shown in the Pie Chart.


  1. You can enter a name for the X-Axis in the textbox. You can also change the font weight, font size, and font color.


  2. You can enter a name for the Y-Axis in the textbox. You can also change the font weight, font size, and font color.


  3. The Grid Line refers to the lines in the background of the chart. Click the spin box to select the width of the gridlines or enter the number directly in the spin box. You can also change the line color.

  1. Click Create.



  1. The Column (Single) Chart appears on the Prototype page.


Column (Grouped)



  1. Click to select Column Grouped as Graph Type.


  2. Enter a name for the extension in the Extension Name field. This name would not be visible on the Prototype page.


  3. Click to select the Value Type i.e. whether the values should appear as currency, percent, or amount.


  4. Click Slice on Zero if you do not want the chart to show zero values.


  5. Click Variables on the left navigation pane.



  1. The Columns in group field shows 2 (groups) by default. You can add any number of groups. Enter the number directly in the textbox or use the spin box to select the number of groups.



  1. Enter a name for the Group in the textbox.


  1. Click inside the textbox to select the variables from the list. You can add any number of variables.




  1. Follow the steps for Group 2.


  2. You can select a different color for the group by clicking the color box.



  1. Enter the name of the variable in each Category textbox.





  1. Click the Marked spline for any group and you can see that instead of the columns, the variables of that particular group appear as a Line chart.




  1. When you click the Marked spline for both groups, the chart will appear as a Line chart.





  1. Select Labels from the left navigation pane, and follow the steps mentioned in the Pie Chart and Column (Single) Chart.

  1. Click Create.




  1. The Column (Group) chart appears on the Prototype page.



  1. If you activate the Marked Spline button and then click Create, you get a Line chart on the Prototype page.

Stack


  1. Click to select Stack as Graph Type.


  2. Follow the steps in the Column (Grouped) chart.



  1. On clicking the Create button, you can see a Stack chart on the Prototype page.


Waterfall


  1. Click to select Waterfall as Graph Type.


  2. Follow the steps in the Column (Single) chart.


  1. On clicking the Create button, you can see a Waterfall chart on the Prototype page.


  2. The fourth bar called Sum Bar (Total Bar) is automatically created when you add each variable.


Bar


  1. Click to select Bar as Graph Type.


  2. Follow the steps in the Column (Single) chart.



  1. On clicking the Create button, you can see a Bar chart on the Prototype page.

Editing/Updating the Chart


  1. Click the pencil icon.


  2. The Graph Editor pop-up box appears.


  3. Make the necessary changes and click Update.


  4. Click Save.



Deleting the Chart


  1. Click the trash icon to delete the chart.

Showing/Hiding the Chart


  1. Click the eye icon to show/hide the extension. The Show/Hide Extension pop-up box appears.



  1. To hide the chart, click the down arrow button to select the hide code reference from the drop-down list and click Save.


  2. The chart would be hidden from view.


Copying the Chart


  1. Click the icon to copy the chart. The Graph Editor pop-up box appears.




  1. Change the Extension Name because when two charts have the same name, if you delete one chart, the other chart also gets deleted.


  2. Under Graph Type, select a new chart, if required. Here I have chosen the chart type as Pie.


  3. Change variables or add new ones, if necessary.


  4. Change Labels, if required.


  5. Click Copy as New.



  1. The new chart appears on the Prototype page.
